Døvhet og tunghørthet hos barn

Forbigående nedsatt hørsel er svært vanlig ved ørebetennelser hos barn. Vedvarende nedsatt hørsel derimot er en tilstand som registreres hos mindre enn 1 av 1000 nyfødte. Ved 6 års alder har 2 av 1000 barn i Norge behov for høreapparat.

Alvorlig eller uttalt medfødt hørselstap betegnes i folkelig tale for døvhet.
