Akutt hjernebetennelse (encefalitt)

Hjernebetennelse er en betennelse i hjerne og hjernehinner. Typiske symptomer kan være hodepine, irritabilitet, utilpasshet, mental sløring, lysskyhet, hukommelsesvansker, personlighetsendringer, konsentrasjonsvansker og/eller epileptiske kramper.

Forløpet ved en akutt hjernebetennelse kan ikke alltid forkortes, men behandling på sykehus kan lindre symptomene.
